Shockwave Therapy

We are happy to announce that we have shockwave therapy at the clinic. This is a clinically proven treatment for soft tissue Injuries.

A shock-wave is a sound wave that passes through the body. The treatment initiates a pro inflammatory response in the tissues where the shockwave is applied.

The body responds by increasing the blood circulation, which in turn accelerates or re-starts the body’s own healing process. Shockwaves can break down injured tissue and calcification. It is especially suitable for long term (chronic) conditions.

What are the advantages of Shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy is normally recommended for people who have already had previous conservative therapies. That have provided little or no clinical benefit!

The treatment supports and effectively stimulates the bodys self- healing mechanisms. This is because often with persistent pain the bodies healing response is often stalled, and excessive adhesions (scar) tissue can be the problem. Reported side effects are minimal usually skin reddening and possible bruising. Speak to your GP if you have any concerns before embarking on a course of treatment.

What is the success rate for shockwave therapy ?

Documented international results show that an overall result rate of 77%  This increases to 90% for Achilles  tendon-opathy of  people who will experience a  full or significant decrease in their pain and injury. It can also be successful with stubborn plantar fascitis ( below)
